Scaling Business in Africa
Over the years, private sector development efforts in Africa have largely focused on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). While these are important, they have proven to be insufficient in stimulating sustainable economic development on the continent. Africa undoubtedly needs a good blend of small and large businesses, which is the goal of Scaling Business in Africa (SBIA).
SBIA is an interdisciplinary impact consortium made up of researchers and industry practitioners working to inform the scaling of Africa's private sector for progressive and sustainable development through high-quality research, teaching, and engagement. It particularly aims to advance current understanding of the business-society interface in Africa, and equip business leaders and entrepreneurs with the requisite skills to contribute to positive social change. Based within the University of Edinburgh Business School, SBIA has members across and beyond the University.
